thoughts on the new Sherlock Holmes movie

Finally got a chance to go see this now that I am back in America.

  1. The plot is weird. Not all that Conan Doyle-like due to too much action and not quite enough mystery+deduction. On the other hand, the overall feel of the movie is stylish.

  2. Lord Blackwood eerily reminds me of Al Pacino in Godfather.

  3. They totally revamped the Irene Adler character for the sake of onscreen romance, and I do not like it. -_- (That said, I think Rachael McAdams was good for the role.) It goes hand in hand with the emotionalizing-Holmes thing (see below).

  4. I am not sure I like what they did to Holmes. He's much, much more human and more expressively emotional now and I'm just...having some trouble with that.

  5. I do LOVE what they did to Watson though. (Oddly enough, I did not find the beard on Jude Law an issue.) Watson's totally, ass-kickingly awesome now. And toppish, to add to it. ("Be gentle with me, Watson!"...I mean...SRSLY PEOPLE? SRSLY?)
In conclusion: Holmes is CLEARLY gay for Watson, who tragically does not realize what they have is not bromance.

When I get some time, I might start looking into fanfics for this.....

I found I was quite happy with how Downey got the essence of Holmes's... voice, kind of? His irascibility? XD

And totally agree on ass-kicking Watson. 8D As a person who HATES mustaches, I found him quite hot. 8D

Also, the gay = yes.

i don't know why i even loved that movie so much - maybe it's all because of the slash & pretty people in it - cause it really wasn't that good. the plot was a bit stupid, i thought. BUT i can't wait for the sequel :D MORIARTY!

3) Watch it again. There was no on screen romance (Not between Irene & Holmes, anyway). At no point in the movie does Holmes indicate that he has any romantic feelings for Irene. He doesn't want her to suffer because he's not a bastard, and he probably enjoys her as a foil, and she possibly thinks he's cute and enjoys playing with him, but that's about it. I actually really enjoyed their dynamic. It was sexual for the audience without being sexual for the characters, which I thought was very clever!

Anyway, I'm not familiar with the books, so I can't speak to that, but Holmes/Watson was CLEARLY CANON OMG. I mean, THEY SHARE A DOG. People might share a house with a friend to save on rent, and one of them might have a pet, but you don't share a pet with your friend. Sharing a pet implies a more permanent arrangement, and isn't it also often practice/replacement for a baby? Y'know, it's a very coupley thing to do...

The way they bicker in the movie like an old couple is simply too adorkable.

I'm having trouble figuring out which one of them I want to top the other one, but so far the fics I've read are all pretty well written.
