Am trying to write Supernatural stuff, but it just all comes out wrong somehow. *sigh* I can't feel the flow, and that's so important to me as a writer.

A part of the reason, I think, is that I can’t get Dean down convincingly in a D/C relationship—or Dean by himself, period. He possesses a lot of the qualities which I lack, which is precisely why I like him as a character. Yet at the same time, it makes him hard to write for me.

In other news, went to see Percy Jackson & The Olympians today in Bayside (in my defense: The Guy wanted to see it, not me). Actually left the movie halfway through, which is possibly a first for me. This was basically a piece of very, very poorly written Greco-Roman mythology fanfic. Gary Stu fanfic, at that. I was somewhat hopeful because I wanted to see Uma Thurman and Rosario Dawson, but alas, I did not have the fortitude to suffer through the rest of it. I think I gave up when The Girl told The Hero she was “the (half-god, half-mortal) daughter of Athena”. No, really. Athena. The famous virgin goddess. (Who appears to have a horde of children in the book series, so uh yeah, WTF moment.)

*headdesk*

At the risk of sounding pompous, I really wanted to yell "hands off those gods" as I was sitting there in the theatre. (That, and OMG your fanfic sucks!!!!) I grew up with the Greco-Roman mythology as a very big part of my life (cough cough), and it's painful for me to see them portrayed in such an....astoundingly foolish manner. I'm not saying the Greco-Roman gods are nice—anybody with a rudimentary knowledge of the myths would tell you otherwise—but they aren't weak or stupid (well, most of them anyway, they are diverse like that).

well, popping in to say that in the last book (or the 4th?) it's explained that athena birthed her children from her head the way she was born, out of an intellectual connection rather than a physical one.

Hmmm, I see. However, if memory serves, Athena was not begotten by the immaculate conception. Zeus got Metis pregnant the traditional way. Zeus feared the child would usurp his throne. Zeus ate Metis. Zeus got headache. And anyway, it's disconcerting for me to see Athena getting all tangled up with having children and etc. That is so not her forte. (Come think of it...except for maybe Demeter who's half decent as a mother, none of the goddesses are really fit to be or want to be mothers.)

I felt that the book was good at justifying the liberties it took w/ characterization. But my last encounter w/ the gods was Ovid's Metamorphoses, so I'm ready to believe *any* indiscretions on their part.

Btw, I've only read book 1 and have yet to see the film, though I intend to. ($5 matinee in Flushing! w00t!) Cause it's still a kid's bestseller, and the film and publishing folks are hoping Percy's the next Potter.

I have not read the books, so I can only comment on the movie. However, I do hope the book is more plausible than the movie adaptation (if only on things like "So why didn't P.J just call his mom to let her know she's in danger?").....

Just watched official trailer #3. They don't look or act like a bunch of 12 year-olds. And Annabeth says she might have feelings for Percy?! O_o;

This is gonna suck.
