Interesting video!

And...no idea what you wrote, but:

Maybe this is just cynicism talking, but the thing that annoys me about the Dove campaign is that...they're basically, supposedly, advertising and promoting that women shouldn't be self-conscious about their bodies due to media portrayal of idealized women - but at the same time, they're also encouraging women to be self-conscious enough so they can all buy their anti-cellulite cream. Paradoxically, meanwhile, other products made by the company that produces Dove (AXE, etc) promote...the...exact opposite, it seems. >_>

(Sorry! This turned out to be longer than I expected XD)

Well, follow that particular line of thought, it's kinda like the anti-smoking ads by the tobacco industry. (I digress but, have you watched "Thank You for Smoking", per chance? Interesting film, to say the least.)

Dove is hardly, say, plastic surgery or botox though. And the topic of beauty/appearance...I think it's a very age-dependent thing. For one thing, I find myself much more occupied with it now, just because I'm at this certain stage in my life. I will probably change my views, for better or worse, as I get older as well.

Perhaps, but I think when the tobacco industry does it, it's SO transparent you can't ever take it seriously. But when people see the Dove ads, they think it's empowering when it's really just like the anti-tobacco ads, and is only another marketing tactic the company chose because they believed it would work (financially) in their favor.

(I digress but, have you watched "Thank You for Smoking", per chance? Interesting film, to say the least.)

Oh, I haven't, actually...I don't watch a lot of movies, to tell you the truth. I remember that film when it came out, and I thought it looked interesting, but I don't know if I'd be comfortable watching that type of humor/satire. I don't know why, though...just humor in that line. Like Borat, though the two films are quite different, I'm equally uncomfortable viewing them for reasons unknown to me. :P

I don't know if I'm more or less preoccupied with appearance now - I suppose I am, if I had to say. At work (the medical office I work PT at does skin-care as well), a lot of my older co-workers get regular Restalyne (?) or Botox injections, and I imagine I couldn't possibly ever get something like that shoved underneath my skin. But that's probably wrong for me to say, because when (hopefully) I reach that age, I'd probably think a lot differently as well.
